Unit 12: Week commencing 28th of April
Monday 28th of April
This morning me and Keiran helped the class warm up by playing a game we learnt called flying sheep, which helped us all get energised as we would be spending this morning doing a readthrough of The Lovely Bones. For this we read through to where Susie's grandmother is introduced, stopping after every scene to talk about how we think it could work and how we'd stage it, like the possibility of every character remaining on stage the whole play. After this a small group of us spent the afternoon toying with the scene where Jack helps Harvey erect the tent, playing with the fact two scenes could be happening at the same time, just one in silence.
Tuesday 29th of April
Today we warmed up with a game of village as we didn’t want to get physical as it was incredibly warm. We then split off into railway children and lovely bones where we thought about our characters living spaces, and how we would put them all together on stage, as we were running with the idea of everyone being on stage at once. We came up with the idea of both the salmon and Mr Harvey’s houses being in opposite sides of the stage, with Lens office being in front of Harvey’s to show how close Harvey is to the case. We then went through and tried blocking all the scenes up to where everyone is looking for Susie. For the scene where Harvey kills Susie, we imagined the den would be behind a curtain that would show a shadow of what’s going on, so when Susie comes out, one of the other Susie's can fake fight with Harvey before being killed.
Wednesday 30th of April
Today we improved the scene of searching for Susie, putting together how we show her summoning the telephones, with each person on stage having a telephone hidden, and when she summons them, we all surround her with them. With Mr Harvey in this scene, since he's trying to blend in, we had him in the background handing out drinks to the searchers, until he approaches Abigail. I played Mr Harvey in this scene as if he very much struggles with basic human interaction, exhaling loudly at the end of each sentence. Due to the fact I wouldn't be in the next 7 scenes, I went to the LRC with Connor, where we worked on our ideas for the front of the program, our main idea being a jingle hat in the middle of a cornfield, with a footprint on it. Once we made a basic draft of it, I then went back to the dance studio to do a run through of DNA since we have a show tomorrow, however I had to read in for Lou as ours was busy filming, before jumping back in for Adam.
Thursday 1st of May
Today was my 4th and final performance of DNA in the school Ingelby Manor. We had to start the show at 9 so we had no time to rehearse any scenes and unfortunately we had no makeup artists so I had to get my makeup done last minute by a classmate, which still turned out really well. The performance went amazing with no mistakes, and I believe this performance of Adam was one of the best I've done it. Once we finished the performance, we went back to college and practiced the sinkhole scene with Mr Harvey. In this scene I had to play the contrast of him being completely unchained and psychopathic to when he interacts with Miss Flannigan at the sinkhole and acts completely natural, yet still has to have an unnerving side to him that’s still visible.
