Globe Show Week and Evaluation

 Monday 21st of October

Today was our first day at The Globe, one day before our first show.  To begin with, we warmed up by playing a few games like Splat so we were energised.  Since the first Tuesday show was the other cast, I was going to be an Aide in the One Flew Over segment of the tour, as the more people occupying the area in that scene, the more realistic it would be.  However, because my show is on the Wednesday, I still need to keep on top of my lines for The Sceptic so this morning Me, Connor and Adam focused on running through our lines together so we knew we had them fully learnt, since now we were in the venue some parts of the tour had been swapped around.  After lunch, me and the other people in the OFO section went through what we would be doing during Nurse Ratchet's section, like all turning to look at the audience at the same time during parts of her speech.

Tuesday 22nd of October

This was the day of the first show so we immediately begun with rehearsal's, all getting in place to allow the tour guides to do a walk through of the performance.  During the run throughs, I made sure to take mental notes on how the other Sceptic acted to see how I could perform it tomorrow.  Once they left the Nurse Ratchet scene, we discussed how we could change and improve it, and we came up with the idea that when the audience come into the room a second time, the acutes are a lot more active, running around and causing chaos, with the Aides and Nurses having to keep them under control.  After the audience came and went a second time, we then moved into Sweeney Todds area, where we waited for the ending scene.  During the ending scene where we all slow dance, I decided to slow dance by myself with an imaginary figure like some of the acutes.  Because of this rehearsal, everyone felt much more confident for the show, as we never really got to do the ending scene, however since the show was so soon, that was the only rehearsal we had time for.  Before the show started I easily got back into character as I had so much experience playing an Aide before during OFO.  During the shows, everything went smoothly, until during the end scene I decided that instead of dancing alone, I could dance with a broom, which would make more sense as I was not as "crazy" as the acutes.  Both of the shows went incredibly well, however afterward me, Adam and Connor knew we had big shoes to fill as the tour guides this night were amazing.

Wednesday 23rd of October

Today was the day of my performance as a tour guide!  I was incredibly excited as I knew this was my chance to show how much I had grown as an actor.  When we got into the Globe me, Connor and Adam immediately got together to show eachother our costumes and do some of our lines.  After a few small warm ups, we began to prepare for a rehearsal run through, with Adam getting his makeup done.  I however didn't need any makeup and my costume was quite casual as I was meant to blend in with the audience so if I looked too extravagant they would know before it began that I was part of the performance.  Once we were fully ready, we did practice tour, where we learnt the places that we had to improv while leading the audience from place to place, the most difficult being the walk from Bill Sykes to Orin Scrivello.  During each scene, I made sure to stay in character ready for the real performance.  Before the show began, I was taken through the back entrance of The Link to blend in with the audience while Connor stood at the front as Josh did his safety speech.  When I revealed myself to the audience, it was clear I shocked them as when I began speaking people began moving around me, allowing me to get through them, adlibbing some lines as I went through them.  During each section, I spent most of my time next to audience members, reassuring them but mainly myself we were safe.  This first show was quite difficult as we had to spend much longer guiding the audience and adlibbing as there was an older audience member who was noticeably slower than the rest, meaning we had to improv more from scene to scene.  This caused some people to be thrown off due to the delay of us going to their scenes.  Other than this, I believe the first show went incredibly well and we lived up to the expectations the last tour guides had left.  For the next show, despite me being confident the first time, I was noticeably more confident when interacting with the audience and knew what I could say when moving them from scene to scene.  I also added some comedy into some of the things I said to break the tension in some of the scenes, such as Bill Sykes threatening me.  Once the show was over, I was very satisfied with the tour and how well it went, especially since it was my first time taking such a hard role.
