The Lovely Bones

Section 1: Rationale 


Running upto the end of my time on this course, these two years have given me many opportunities that have helped me truly grow and change as an actor.  Each of these opportunities has challenged me in different ways, from thinking on the spot with the Ghostlight Tours, to stretching myself emotionally with roles like Adam.  Before I began this course I never thought I was capable of such things as an actor, which is why I want to stretch myself further by staying on the level 4 course.  Finally, I believe playing a role like Mr Harvey will really show how much versatility I have as an actor, thanks to the confidence this course has given me.

Section 2: Project concept 

 

Within this project, I wish to show the pure evil of such a monstrous character like Mr. Harvey, and how he switches between from mild mannered neighbour to a disgusting predator.  I intend to make my performance as close to the source material as I can, while still giving my own personal twist on the character, and I will do this by researching into the film, where Mr Harvey is portrayed by the insanely talented Stanley Tucci.  Furthermore, I will look closely at each scene I appear in, looking at how each scene changes his character, aswell as how the scene impacts the people around him.  Other than the scenes he is purposely in, I will still remain on the stage while not saying anything, not pulling attention from the main scene, but reinforcing his sinister character, such as just eating a sandwich while the Salmon’s are being told their daughter is dead, to show while the Salmon’s lives are being destroyed, it’s just another day for Harvey.  Another research tactic I will use is by looking into real life serial killers, such as watching Jeffery Dahmer’s Netflix show, as I believe he is quite similar a character to Harvey (a wolf in sheep’s clothing) and it will add another layer of realism to my performance.

Section 3: Evaluation 


Throughout this unit I intend to give daily updates on my rehearsal progress through Blogger, aswell as enhance my performance by taking on the feedback given to me by my tutor, to become a more experienced and talented actor.

Week commencing 14th of October

  Monday 14th of October This morning we played a new game called G'day Shiela, which was a memory game which made us remember who we were close to.  We played this game to improve our skills at remembering multiple things at once, as we had to speak in an accent, and the names of the two people to our right.  The rest of the day we put our full attention on Ghostlight Tours, with me, Connor and Adam going off to rehearse in the Black Box room ourselves, where we focussed completely on the first scene as it helped us get into character and it was the hardest part to learn, due to the rest of our dialogue mostly being short speeches before each section.  For now I just need to focus on getting of script for the first few pages as the show is actually quite close. Globe Show Week and Evaluation

  Monday 21st of October Today was our first day at The Globe, one day before our first show.  To begin with, we warmed up by playing a few games like Splat so we were energised.  Since the first Tuesday show was the other cast, I was going to be an Aide in the One Flew Over segment of the tour, as the more people occupying the area in that scene, the more realistic it would be.  However, because my show is on the Wednesday, I still need to keep on top of my lines for The Sceptic so this morning Me, Connor and Adam focused on running through our lines together so we knew we had them fully learnt, since now we were in the venue some parts of the tour had been swapped around.  After lunch, me and the other people in the OFO section went through what we would be doing during Nurse Ratchet's section, like all turning to look at the audience at the same time during parts of her speech.   Tuesday 22nd of October This was the day of the first show so we immed...

Week Commencing 7th of October

Monday 7th of October Today in the morning we were still practicing for another Ghost Light audition as the tour guides hadn't been casted still.  Everyone who wanted to be a tour guide went to the black box room to develop the character they would like to play.  I sat and discussed my ideas for the theatre with both Faith and Connor, where we learnt how we all saw the character in a similar way.  After we spent time making notes, we got into the groups of 3 of the Sceptic, Theatre Reviewer and Mystic, where we practiced the audition piece, really getting into character, and even performing it in front of a few of our peers.  Once we were confident, we went to the dance studio to show it to Kelly, making sure to do it the best we'd done yet, as she was still unsure on who she wanted for the tour guides.
