Week Commencing 7th of October

Monday 7th of October

Today in the morning we were still practicing for another Ghost Light audition as the tour guides hadn't been casted still.  Everyone who wanted to be a tour guide went to the black box room to develop the character they would like to play.  I sat and discussed my ideas for the theatre with both Faith and Connor, where we learnt how we all saw the character in a similar way.  After we spent time making notes, we got into the groups of 3 of the Sceptic, Theatre Reviewer and Mystic, where we practiced the audition piece, really getting into character, and even performing it in front of a few of our peers.  Once we were confident, we went to the dance studio to show it to Kelly, making sure to do it the best we'd done yet, as she was still unsure on who she wanted for the tour guides.

This morning we focussed on the directing aspect where we practiced our Dear Evan Hansen duologue to be filmed.  While rehearsing it, both me and Layla managed to get off script, which helped us be more animated and use more hand gestures and subtle movements.  We also used chairs in our scene as well so we could have levels throughout it to show the change in dynamic in the piece.  After lunch, one of Kelly's old students came in talk to us about his process to get into Drama school and while it is difficult, it is incredibly rewarding.

Wednesday 9th of October

Today the cast list was revealed for the whole of the class, where I was given the role of the Sceptic, with Connor being my Theatre Reviewer and Adam being my Mystic.  This got me incredibly excited as I have great chemistry with both Adam and Connor and I knew being a tour guide would be incredibly challenging for me, pushing me out my comfort zone, one of the reasons I originally went for it.  We quicky got into a group with the other tour guides, where Kelly talked to us about how she wanted the tour guides to be like, similar to those fake ghost buster videos.  After this, we did a quick read through of our parts of the script, alternating the group for each scene, so we could get an idea of the different scenes we'd be seeing.  Getting this role has me incredibly excited for the show as I know it will be my biggest role and challenge yet.

Thursday 10th of October

This morning we began by doing monologues with Tom where I researched which monologues I could do, yet I struggled to find any that interested me so am still searching for Shakespeare monologues, which I find the most difficult.  After Toms lesson we went back to do more directing with Kelly, focussing on phone call scenes.  For this we got into pairs, standing back to back, where one person would tell a story, and the other couldn't respond in words, only using their facial expressions.  This is because in film, the audience see the actors face close up, so can easily see the thought process, meaning the actor has to seem genuine and that character, not just reading off lines from memory.
