Audition Week

 Monday 4th of November

Today was the day before auditions, so to help us settle on a character we are certain we'd want to go for, Kelly gave us short summaries of each character.  Out of all the characters, I was most interested in the fairy Sue, as I believe they would be the most challenging role for me.  I began to learn the extract which was the blue fairies short monologue at the start of the show, as the fairies in training didn't have any major speeches.  Aswell as this I quickly learnt When You Wish Upon A Star as we had rehearsed it quite often so I knew most of it.

Tuesday 5th of November / Audition day!

Auditions were today and my slot was at 12.30.  This gave me time to prepare for my audition aswell as make a few changes to it to make my character stand out.  While doing this, I also helped my friends who were stressing about their auditions.  For my audition, I played Sue as someone who was given a script by the Blue Fairy but really cant be bothered so does so quite lazily.  This was quite difficult as I wanted to show my character as not bothered but I had to also balance it as if I didn't put in enough effort it may have seemed I wasn't bothered about the audition at all.  Overall, I felt the audition went quite well although in one part of the monologue I forgot one of the lines, meaning Abi had to read me one of the lines, however I feel despite that it still may have worked in my favour.

Wednesday 6th of November

For today we had a Disney workshop led by Abi to help us get in the Disney spirit for Pinocchio.  To begin with, we watched videos of the actors in the fur costumes and how they moved about in character using big movements.  Once the videos finished, we were told to think of a character in our heads and walk around the room as the character, with Abi guessing who we were.  After a few minutes she then put on In Summer from Frozen, and told us to dance without using our faces since if we were actually actors at Disney we'd be wearing masks.  Once we did it a few times she split us into two groups where we performed in front of each other as we needed to have the confidence to do it in front of each other.  Finally, we were taught a dance all the actors do during the parades, so Abi could see how much energy we give the dances, so despite me finding some of the moves quite difficult to keep on top of, I made sure to put in as much energy as I could.  After this we went on a group trip to see a production of War Horse in Sunderland which was phenomenal.  The whole show blew me away with its use of puppets for the horses which moved with such fluidity.

Thursday 7th of November

Today was the day of our singing auditions so in the morning we did vocal warm ups so we were all prepared for them.  I felt quite worried for my singing audition, a lot less confident than my previous one, as I struggled to hit the notes for the song, however I had some time to practice so I wasn't completely unprepared.  For my audition I first went in alone where I had to sing the whole of When You Wish Upon A Star including the Blue Fairies section which I found quite difficult and wasn't very confident with.  After my solo audition, I joined the other fairies where we all sung the song together, which I feel went a lot better.  Once I did my audition, I then went to help my friends who may have needed help with some of the songs.
