Week Commencing 16th of September

 Monday 16th of September

Today, we focussed on using our imagination on the fly as a group to see how creative we are.  We were put into groups and given one chair by Kelly, who then gave us 3 minutes to imagine the chair as 40 different things, such as a bomb, shield or pencil, so she could see how quickly we can think up of things on the spot.  Afterward, we got into pairs of 2 where we got given a random tongue twister, with me and my partner being given "She sells seashells on the seashore".  This was to help work on our diction for when we perform on stage, as the audience need to understand what we are saying.

Today we had quite a short lesson where we focussed on working on duologues in pairs.  To begin with, Kelly had us walk around the room and find a partner who we have never really worked with on the course.  This was so we didn't choose to just work with our friends and we may pair up with someone who could work really well with us.  We were then given an extract from the musical Dear Evan Hansen, where Evan is confronted by his mother for spending time with the Murphy's.  I was partnered with Layla so I was given the role of Evan whereas Layla was Evan's Mother.

For today we focused on choosing who we would like to audition for in The Globes Ghost-Light Tour.  Originally, I was going to audition for the role of the dentist, Orin Scrivello, from Little Shop of Horrors, as he seemed like a very interesting character to play and a challenge to portray, due to his psychopathic nature.  To help me prepare and get into the characters mind, I continuously listened to his villain song, "Dentist!".  However, whilst sat in the group of people who would also be auditioning for Orin, I was approached by Delroy, who was searching for a partner to audition with him to be a tour guide.  This interested me as I figured it would stretch me and move me out of my comfort zone, as I have never worked so closely with an audience before.  Aswell as this, I had already worked closely with Delroy during One Flew Over, so I knew he was a very good actor and we had good chemistry between each other.  Because of this, I decided to scrap my original idea of going for Orin, and decided to go for a tour guide, where we were given a small scene to learn for our audition.

Thursday 19th of September

Today we had our first look at a few songs in Pinocchio, "When you wish upon a star" and "Toys".  Beforehand, we did vocal warm-ups with Tom so we didn't strain our voices when practising, by doing "Oh when the saints", "Lip trills" and controlled breathing exercises.  After going through those two whole songs, we flipped through the script and looked at the rest of the songs involved in the show and which characters sung them, highlighting the villains song, "Bravo Stromboli".  We then had Kelly's lesson, where we were put into teams of three and given a short extract from the show "Flick", where one of the cinema workers confronts another for stealing money from the tills.  When we were given this script, we looked into the given circumstances and what parts we could use our imagination for, making notes on the scripts.   One person was given the role as director, and the other two performing the extract.
