Unit 12: Week commencing 1st of April

Monday 1st of April

Today we had the chance of reading through the whole of The Lovely Bones and since I was ill last week I missed the original read through of the script so made sure to analyse it whilst I read it.  Once I had finished I found myself fixated on the character of Mr Harvey, the man who kills Susie Salmon.  I spoke to Kelly about it, questioning what kind of monologue I should do, since really there are two sides to his character, and Kelly suggested I do a monologue which shows his deranged evil side, instead of his unassuming side, as she's seen me do that before.  I then helped Kelly alongside a few other students with introducing some people into the course who are thinking of joining next year, by giving them a tour around the college.

Since auditions were tomorrow, I spent this morning searching for one I thought would fit the character of Mr Harvey, until I found the perfect one from a film called "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", delivered by a man who is about to murder a journalist he has captured.  I learnt it by delivering it in multiple ways, before settling on an incredibly sinister tone and insanely unnerving.  After lunch, me and Hope went with Hayley to Ropner park to film some scenes for her film me and her are starring in for the Fringe Festival, where we managed to get every scene we needed filmed.

Wednesday 3rd of April

Today was audition day, and I was quite excited as I felt the monologue I had chosen showcased everything Kelly wanted to see in the character.  Aswell as this, before my audition, I changed into different clothes as I felt it helped me get more into character, also changing my hair by putting in lots of hair gel to make it look greasy, aswell as fashioning it into curtains to really finish the look.  I fully prepared myself into getting into the mindset of someone like Mr Harvey and took myself to my audition.  Upon entering, Kelly asked me some questions relating to the character, such as why I chose to audition for this character and why he stuck out to me, where I explained how I felt I never played any character like this before, with her seemingly sharing this mindset as she's never seen me perform anything similar to Harvey.  I then did my monologue, which Kelly commented on saying how shocked she was with me and how I've completely came out of my shell and its a complete contrast to characters I normally play.

Thursday 4th of April

Because of the auditions yesterday, today was time for call backs, with my name being down for Mr Harvey, which was quite exciting, due to the fact it was the first time in college I got a callback for a character I originally auditioned for.  My first callback was a chemistry read for the Susie scene to see how I played the turn from him going from nice neighbour to incredibly creepy and unnerving murderer.  I did one with Scarlett and another with Jasmine, with both feeling like they went incredibly well, especially playing on the creepiness of the character.  I then had another with Connor as Jack, for the scene where Mr Harvey is building the bridal tent, which went very good as I felt me and Connor had that natural chemistry, aswell as the fact we'd read through the scene together in preparation if we had to do it.
