Week Commencing 27th of January

 Monday 27th of January

Today we began by working on our devising skills, by doing an activity that started with us getting into small groups of five.  Once in the groups, we were given a sentence that had a dynamic word, which based on the context it was used in completely changes how you'd deliver the line.  Our groups word was "stand back, it's gonna blow!".  To begin with, we took turns saying the line to each other in different tones to think of different scenarios it could be used in.  We were then given 10 minutes to use the line in a short comedic scene, which led us coming up with the idea of a microwave blowing up in someone's face unintentionally.  Once we performed this, we then had to make a dramatic scene using the line, so we thought of a police officer trying to save a hostage who is revealed to be wearing a bomb vest.  This task helped us improve our creativity and creating layers of subtext from a single line.

Today I worked on doing more research into Bouncers for mine and Georges project, by reading through the first act and taking notes of when the characters changed personas, also putting thought into what scenes we might want to use, as obviously we couldn't perform the whole play.  Aswell as this, I also spent today auditioning for a role in a fellow students film, which they are putting together also for the Fringe Festival.

Wednesday 29th of January

Today the recalls for Normalised were held, and unfortunately I did not get a recall for Jay, however I did get one for Kieran, Jays best friend.  For this recall we did the scene where Jamesy crashes the memorial to Colm, so since Kieran didn't have many lines I had to focus on my reactions to the situation that was happening.  I felt I did alright during this audition however I wasn't too desperate for this role as I was more focused on Adam, a character in DNA who the group "kill".  In the afternoon we did the auditions for DNA, which was scene 3 in the play, where the group find Adam, who is severely brain damaged and traumatised.  I had a great group who supported all my choices during the audition and worked around what I was doing.

Thursday 30th of January

I began today by having my monologue filmed by Tom, which was one my best performances of it with little mistakes.  After this, we then did the DNA recalls, which I got one for Adam, these auditions focussed on our chemistry as a group, not only looking at singular characters, as the group dynamic was incredibly important to getting the script right.  Since there were so many groups, I got to audition multiple times, so if I didn't like my previous version, I could change how I did it.  I feel my auditions were very good, showing the fear of Adam as well as the damage he had done to him.
