Week Commencing 6th of November
Monday 6th of November
Today we all did our auditions for the character we wished for in Peter Pan. I chose to audition for John, the middle child of the Darling family who gets taken to Neverland by Peter. I chose this character as I felt he was a good choice because he would be a good starting point as whilst being on stage quite a lot, he didn't have lots of lines, so was a character to start my acting journey on. Another reason was I felt like I could quite easily become that character, by slightly changing my accent to seem more posh and acting more childlike, since he is only 10. For my audition piece, I acted out the scene where Wendy woke him up so Peter could teach him to fly. Before anyone did their audition though we all did a few games of Splat so we were all calmed down and were then given a timetable for each auditions. Since my audition was later in the day after the Michaels did their auditions it gave me time to enhance my piece and make it better and collect some props for it. During my audition, I was watched by a student panel as well as Kelly who then ranked my audition after I had done it. Overall, while I was quite happy with my performance, there were some things I could have done better, such as when Peter covers me in fairy dust, I could've reacted more to being lifted into the air. As well as this, also could have worn some night clothes like pyjamas since John was woken up when the scene began.
Tuesday 7th of November
Today, the people who went for the three main parts (Peter, Wendy and Hook) all got into teams of three to perform the mermaids lagoon scene in front of everyone. Once every team went through their scene we all got separated into teams of lost boys, pirates and brave girls and created a way for us to enter the stage as a group. This was so the teams weren't just separate characters, but they all moved as a unit fluidly so you could tell they were all working together. I was put with the lost boys and we all came onto the stage in groups of two but we choreographed one group to bump into another, starting a fight between them all, having it be broken up by Peter cawing. Once we had done it, we showed it to Kelly and worked with the Pirates to make sure they weren't too similar.
Wednesday 8th of November
Today we did a dance number for the lost boys in groups of three to the song 'We’re going home'. For the dance we remained in the character we auditioned for to improve our characterisation and added an ending to the dance routine where I pretended to fight with Jack and Will as they both auditioned for Captain Hook. After the dance we did our singing auditions and as I was going for John I had to sing the opening to 'We Are The Darlings' with the others who went for John. We then got split apart and I sung by myself so they could hear me sing separately.
Thursday 9th of November
In the morning a scriptwriter named Tess came in and helped us improve our ideas for the script we're writing. We each came up with something that annoyed us during the morning and wrote a small 5 minute story that included the thing that irritated us, such as the train being late leading the main character to miss out on a promotion. Once Tess left, we re-joined the rest of the class and split into lost boys and pirates where we each did a scene. In the lost boys group, we started blocking out the scene of Wendy accidently getting shot after Tink convinces Tootles to shoot her. We did this so Kelly could see how we worked in a team for the ensemble scenes with a lot of people, and how we bounce off the other actors
