Performance Week At The Globe

 Monday 23rd October

Today we had our first day at The Globe so we could go through the show before we perform it tomorrow.  To begin with we played a few games of Splat so we could get all our energy back before our run through,  We had a full tech run to help us prepare and polish our scenes.  Once we did our Guy Fawkes scenes and the tour guides went to Titanic, Kelly gave us some feedback to help improve our scene such as raising our voice so we can be heard better.  After we received our feedback we went into the hallway so we could then go into the plague scene as an extra who would walk around whilst the victims gave their monologues. Halfway through the scene all the extras went into the bar so the audience could walk across the stage past the Jack The Ripper victims.  When the tour guides took the audience to The Radium Girls we all gathered round the front of the stage for the execution and all started cheering whilst we waited for the tour guides.  Once the tour guides came into the room we all stopped and started staring at them whilst letting them walk through the middle of us.  The tour guides then got to choose which of the Jack The Rippers should be executed and then see Mary Ann Cotton be beheaded.  When Guy Fawkes gets dragged out to be executed, he speaks back to the queen and asks if she has heard of Robert Catesby.  Knowing it was my cue, I walk through the crowd and audience and explain how we have the audience surrounded and threaten to kill everyone unless Guy is freed.  However, I notice Burke holding the lantern I beckon him over to see it and once he comes closer I stab him in the gut, killing him before Johnny Walker comes in and makes us all freeze.  After the walk through, we practiced one more time with the different cast so everyone had a chance to practice, however I was the only Robert Catesby.

Tuesday 24th October

Today, we did our very first performance in front of an audience however first we did a full dress and makeup rehearsal to fully prepare.  We had only 2 shows today and because of this had longer to practice.  When the first audience came in we all got in our positions and whilst waiting for The Titanic group to finish their scene we all got into character so we could be fully focused on making our scene the best it could be. Once the audience came into our room I made sure to use my physicality as even though I didn't have many lines I was still important to the scene.  After they left we made sure to stay quiet as they may have still been able to hear us, then quickly ran into the corridor to wait to go into the plague.  When we were doing the plague section I walked around with another Guy Fawkes member and we pretended to be drunk before we went into the bar.  We heard the Ripper victims screaming we all waited 30 seconds to walk in so we didn't go in whilst the audience was still there.  Then we set up the execution and waited for the audience to get back from the radium girls.  It all was going very well and when Guy gave my queue I was able to walk through the audience, however I had to improvise some lines and work harder to try and convince Burke to come over to me as the audience were telling him to stay back and not approach me. When I got him over and stabbed him it successfully shocked the audience, giving them one last scare before Jonny Walker came out and stopped it all.  The second show we did was even better as I knew what to improve upon, especially making my words clearer so the audience could understand me better.

Wednesday 25th October

Due to this being our last show day we did six shows, two for primary schools and four for adult audiences.  Since our first shows were just for primary schools we had to tone down the intensity of it so we did not wear any makeup.  As well as this we made the ending less scary for the children by changing it so that I held one of the tour guides at knife point rather than killing him.
